Robusta coffee prices have shattered records, exceeding 4,000 USD/ton. The London exchange witnessed unprecedented levels, with coffee futures for May delivery soaring by 31 USD to reach 4,005 USD/ton—a historic pinnacle. Futures for subsequent months, including July, September, and November, also saw substantial increases ranging from 25 to 28 USD/ton.
Simultaneously, Arabica coffee prices on the New York Stock Exchange experienced a steep ascent, climbing by 114.4 USD to reach 5,220 USD/ton—the highest level seen in the past 18 months, dating back to October 2022. Prices for other terms also surged, with gains ranging from 34 to 38.5 USD/ton.
Brazilian Arabica coffee futures for May delivery followed suit, leaping by 151.8 USD to hit 6,260 USD/ton.
In Vietnam’s Central Highlands, coffee prices continue their upward trajectory, with increases ranging from 1,500 to 1,700 VND/kg. Specifically, prices in Dak Nong stand at 115,500 VND/kg, Dak Lak at 115,400 VND/kg, Gia Lai at 115,300 VND/kg, and Lam Dong at 115,000 VND/kg. With this ongoing surge, Vietnamese coffee prices are expected to reach an unprecedented milestone by the week’s end.
The persistent upward trend in Arabica coffee prices, both in New York and Brazilian markets, reflects a global shortage across all sources. Notably, large businesses in Vietnam have recently announced imminent shortages, even considering the need for coffee imports in the coming months. This revelation has further fueled price hikes in countries like Brazil and Indonesia, where harvests are imminent.
