The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport on Wednesday granted a business license to Sun Air Co. Ltd. to operate as a general aviation service provider.
The new airline is expected to officially launch its private jet service later this month, the Tuoi Tre Newspaper reported.
Sun Air was established with a capital of VND100 billion (US$4.37 million), which is a subsidiary of domestic realty giant Sun Group.
The headquartered of Sun Air located at 13 Hai Ba Trung Street in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.
The new airline will be based at Van Don International Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province and will offer general aviation services, including private aircraft management and charter flights, sightseeing flights, and helicopter and seaplane tours on both domestic and international routes.
According to the statemement, target customers of the company will be wealthy passengers in need of flights for project surveys, medical treatment, sightseeing, tourism, and visits to luxury resorts.
The Sun Air’s target markets include Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, South Korea, and Japan.
From the third quarter of this year, Sun Air will operate two Gulfstream G650ER long-range business jets.
From 2023 to 2025, Sun Air will add four Gulfstream G650ER aircraft, one Gulfstream G700 jet, one helicopter, and two seaplanes to its fleet.
The carrier also plans to operate more super-large and ultra-long-haul business jets, such as Boeing BBJ and Airbus ACJ aircraft, in the future.
Sun Air will compete alongside the other six players in Vietnam’s aviation market – Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Pacific Airlines, Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO), Bamboo Airways, and Vietravel Airlines.
In addition to Sun Air, four other enterprises were granted general aviation business licenses, including Vietstar Airlines Multirole Corporation, Green Planet Airways JSC, Vietnam Helicopter Corporation, and Hai Au Aviation JSC, according to the Tuoi Tre Newspaper
