A lockdown has been lifted from Da Nang Hospital, Vietnam’s largest novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cluster, after nearly 30 days.
Da Nang Hospital, located in the namesake central city, was reopened at 4:00 pm on Tuesday after the lockdown restrictions were removed.
The Ministry of Health previously sealed off the infirmary at 1:00 pm on July 26 after many of the emerging COVID-19 cases at the time were traced back to the facility.
Da Nang C Hospital and Da Nang Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Hospital were also fenced off in late July for similar reasons but they have been allowed to resume operations since earlier this month.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Le Duc Nhan, director of Da Nang Hospital, asserted that the infirmary had undergone four levels of disinfection.
The hospital has gone 14 days without detecting any new COVID-19 cases.
About 340 health workers have been permitted to leave the hospital and will undergo 14-day home quarantine.
According to Dr. Nhan, Da Nang Hospital will follow a four-stage reopening plan to ensure treatment for its patients while preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the coming time.
During the first stage, which will last for three days, the hospital will focus on establishing treatment and care procedures appropriate for the epidemic situation.
The infirmary will receive seriously ill patients who require emergency medical attention during the second phase.
All departments of the hospital will gradually be reopened to provide health examination services in the third stage.
The institution will receive inpatients during its final phase.
Dr. Nhan also expressed his gratitude toward doctors and experts from across the country for their assistance during this difficult time.
During the lockdown, many health workers and family members of patients were brought to local quarantine camps as part of COVID-19 prevention measures.
More than 800 patients were also transferred to other hospitals to better control the spread of the disease at Da Nang Hospital, the director elaborated.
Vietnam has recorded 1,029 COVID-19 patients, of whom 28 have been killed and 592 have recovered.
The country has registered 547 local infections since July 25, when Da Nang logged the first domestically transmitted case after the nation had spent 99 days recording no community transmission.
Many of the domestic cases have been traced back to the central city.
