HÀ NỘI – A new theatre project has been launched to promote independent theatrical and performing art in Hà Nội.
The project, entitled New Backstage, is initiated and curated by XplusX Studio, organised by the Goethe Institute Hanoi and Manzi Art Space, aims to foster independent theatrical and performing art practices in Hà Nội.
Individuals or groups, professional or amateurs, students, novices and those who are trying to turn professional are being invited to an ‘open call’ to submit their theater/performance ideas.
Proposals must be original and will be evaluated by a jury board including representatives of the Goethe-Institut Hanoi, XplusX Studio and Manzi Art Space.
If they are chosen, the drafts will undergo basic production tests and authors provided with essential assistance and mentoring including artistic curation, expertise and technical advice, alongside financial support.
There will then be a series of public performances at Manzi for local audiences in Hà Nội.
This project is part of a long-term programme focused on theatre, running until July 2025, with the deadline for the first theatrical submissions, August 31, 2024.
Applicants can be either an individual or a group, regardless of their field of expertise or training or experience, but they must be able to work collaboratively and the submitted piece must be an original.
