According to data from the Air Transport Information Portal of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of South Korea, the number of passengers traveling from South Korea to Vietnam in April exceeded 846,000.
A correspondent from the Vietnam News Agency (TTXVN) in Seoul, citing data from the Air Transport Information Portal of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of South Korea, reported that the number of passengers traveling from South Korea to Vietnam in April 2024 was 846,434, accounting for 31.1% of the total 2,720,557 South Korean tourists traveling to Southeast Asian countries.
With numerous prominent tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc, it is not surprising that Vietnam has risen to become a top travel destination in Southeast Asia for South Korean tourists. To keep up with the increasing demand for travel to Vietnam, South Korean airlines are also quickly increasing the number of flights and establishing new routes.
Statistics show that besides Da Nang, which has previously been a well-known tourist destination for international travelers in general and South Korean visitors in particular, South Korean tourists now also enjoy visiting other areas such as Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Da Lat.
In April 2024 alone, there were 173,865 tourists using the route from Seoul to Da Nang, followed by the route to Nha Trang with 141,130 tourists. Flights to Phu Quoc also recorded 53,680 passengers, demonstrating that these are emerging tourist destinations in Vietnam favored by many South Koreans.
To meet the high demand, low-cost South Korean airlines are also increasing flights to Vietnam, particularly focusing on expanding routes to Nha Trang and Phu Quoc instead of Da Nang, where the competition has become too intense with many flights already operating.
Starting from May 2024, T’way Air has launched an additional Busan-Nha Trang route with a daily flight frequency. As a result, the total number of direct routes operated by T’way Air to Nha Trang, Vietnam has increased to three, with departures from Incheon, Cheongju, and Busan.
Many Korean tourists choose Sa Pa and Da Nang as an experience destination
Starting from June 19th, the Daegu-Nha Trang route will also resume operations. This route was suspended after its initial operation in May 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. However, due to increasing demand, it has been decided to resume this route.
Eastar Jet, which already has a route from Incheon to Nha Trang, also announced that it will launch a new route to Phu Quoc starting from July 19th with a frequency of seven round trips per week.
After Vietnam, the second position belongs to the Philippines, with well-known resort destinations such as Cebu, Manila, and Bohol, attracting 364,875 tourists. Thailand, with destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, ranks third with 356,319 South Korean visitors.
