The French Embassy has announced that the esteemed French naval vessel, the Vendemiaire, will make a port call at Da Nang from April 11 to 15.
This visit serves as a respite for the crew after a prolonged mission and offers opportunities for engagement with the Vietnamese Navy and Coast Guard.
During their stay in Da Nang, Lieutenant Colonel Drouelle, commanding officer of the Vendemiaire, will conduct courtesy visits to key officials, including those from the People’s Committee of Da Nang City, the Command of Military Region 5, and Naval Region 3.
A variety of activities await the crew, including training sessions on fire prevention, maritime safety protocols, and readiness for sea operations such as anti-pollution measures and search and rescue operations. Additionally, the crew will engage in ship tours and friendly sports competitions, including volleyball.
French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet emphasized the significance of the visit, highlighting its role in strengthening the cooperation between France and Vietnam. Furthermore, it underscores France’s commitment to upholding maritime freedoms and ensuring the safety of shared maritime spaces.
Ambassador Brochet expressed his satisfaction with the inaugural participation of the Vietnam Coast Guard in joint sea training exercises with the Vendemiaire, signaling deepening military and maritime collaboration between the two nations.
Departing from Noumea on February 29, the Vendemiaire has been engaged in maritime patrols and cooperative efforts with the armed forces of ASEAN and regional allies, including Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei, and Australia, demonstrating France’s commitment to regional security and cooperation.
