HCM CITY — Young filmmakers learned and developed their career during Autumn Meeting, an international cinema event providing opportunities for their projects closed in HCM City last weekend.
The tenth annual Autumn Meeting from November 13 to 20 attracted several participants from countries and territories such as Việt Nam, South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines and Chinese Taiwan.
Many students from art schools and young people involved in movies in the city were also involved.
The event offered cinematic exchanges between international filmmakers and training courses in basic acting, advanced acting, producing, directing, costume and design.
Basic knowledge and latest information about independent filmmaking were also featured.
Famous film directors, scriptwriters and producers from France, Korea and Việt Nam were invited to share information, skills and experiences in film, including casting, shooting, and pre-and post-production.
They included film director Phan Đăng Di of Hà Nội, winner for the Best Screenwriter at the Critics Week category of the Cannes Film Festival 2010.
The event included free screenings in cinema complexes such as the CGV Crescent Mall and CGV Pearl Plaza.
“Through the Autumn Meeting, I hope young filmmakers, amateur and professional, will have a chance to learn and improve their knowledge and skills,” said People’s Artist and actress Lê Khanh, who has 30 years of experience in film and theatre.

The event featured Vietnamese-French director Trần Anh Hùng, who was an Oscar nominee and Cannes Camera d’Or winner in 1993 for Scent of Green Papaya.
Hùng directed the 2010 adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s hit novel Norwegian Wood and Eternity in 2016 starring Audrey Tautou, Berenice Bejo and Melanie Laurent.
Thai producer Raymond Phathanaviranggon, founder of the Southeast Asia Fiction Film Lab (SEAFIC), was also included.
Meeting Autumn was launched in 2013 by director Di and his partner, film producer Trần Thị Bích Ngọc. The event has provided opportunities for many film projects and young directors at international festivals. — VNS
