In October, the number of passengers through 22 airports in Vietnam reached 7.2 million, a sharp decrease compared to September and the same period in 2019.
According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, in October (from September 19 to October 18), the number of passengers through airports reached 7.2 million, down 11.6% compared to September and down 23.3% compared to October 2019 (when there was no Covid-19 epidemic).
Among these, international visitors reached 1.3 million, down 1.4% compared to September and down 61.8% compared to October 2019. Domestic visitors reached 5.8 million visitors, down 13.6% compared to September and down 0.8% compared to October 2019.
For Vietnamese airlines, flight volume also witnessed a sharp decline in October. Specifically, a total of 3.5 million passengers were served by Vietnamese airlines in October, down 11.7%. compared with September and decreased by nearly 20% compared to October 2019.
In which, domestic tourists reached 2.9 million, down 13.6% compared to September and down 0.8% compared to October 2019. International visitors reached 614 thousand visitors, down 1.2% compared to September and down 59.1% compared to October 2019.
In October, VietJet Air is the airline serving the most flights, with 9,688 flights. However, this number is 21.3% lower than in September. In second place is Vietnam Airlines with 8,726 flights (less than September 12.6%) and Bamboo Airways (4,371 flights – down 9.6%).
This is the second consecutive month that the passenger transport volume of Vietnamese airlines has decreased. Previously, domestic airlines serving the number of passengers in September decreased by 13% compared to August.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam assesses that the decline in passenger transport volume is normal because the air freight market entered a low period. The low season at the end of the year can last until the end of December and only increase again during the peak of transportation during the Lunar New Year.

Statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also show that, in the period from September 19 to October 18, domestic airlines performed 25,037 flights, down 17.6% compared to the previous month, including 23,314 on-time takeoffs account for on-time performance (OTP) of 93.1%, up 2.5 points from the previous month.
The number of delayed flights was 1,723, accounting for 6.9%, down 2.5 points compared to the previous month. The total number of canceled flights was 112 flights, accounting for 0.45%, up 0.3 points compared to the previous month.
In which, Vietravel has the highest delay rate of 10% with 44 flights out of 440 flights made in October. The airline with the highest number of delayed flights is VietJet Air (719 flights), rated 7.4%. Vietnam Airlines as usual is the airline with the top flight delays with 590 flights, a rate of 6.8%.
