Google has removed nearly 6,700 video clips from YouTube, including nearly 300 with anti-party and state content by the end of June 2018, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan told a conference held on July 9 in Hanoi that ‘bad news’ spread on social networks had caused a negative impact – Dtinews reports.
The Ministry of Information and Communications have been working with representatives of Facebook and Google, requesting them to help in the prevention, treatment and removal of wrong information that violates Vietnamese law on social networks.
“By the end of June 2018, Google had blocked or removed nearly 6,700 out of 7,800 video clips with reactionary contents inciting people to oppose the party and state from YouTube,” Tuan said.
Furthermore, six YouTube channels have been permanently blocked. Facebook also blocked and removed nearly 1,000 over 5,500 links that violate the Vietnamese law as well. Facebook has so far removed 107 fake accounts, 137 accounts which disseminated propaganda against the Communist Party and Vietnam and removed links about Formosa as well as anti-government activities, he added.
Ministry of Information and Communications also revealed that in the first six months of 2018, the Ministry had researched and developed a code of conduct for service providers and users of social networks in Vietnam. Facebook has built a separate channel to address the proposal of the Ministry of Information and Communication to prevent, deal and remove information violating the Vietnamese law on social networks. For Google, the company is also committed to compliance with the Vietnamese law and co-operation on information security and safety; co-operating with Vietnamese authorities in finding out solutions to build ‘positive’ content channels and publicise channels which hold malicious content on YouTube.
The Ministry of Information and Communications reaffirmed that it will continue to handle infringing content on Facebook and YouTube in the coming time.
