HÀ NỘI — A drone show intended to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hà Nội’s Liberation Day on October 10 is cancelled, the Chairman of the Hà Nội People’s Committee Trần Sỹ Thanh announced on Thursday.
This comes after a decision on Wednesday to cancel the city-wide fireworks display, which was also meant to celebrate the big anniversary.
The Committee stated that eight celebration activities are also being cancelled, and seven others will be changed due to the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.
Specifically, eight events planned for the 70th anniversary will be cancelled. This includes the fireworks display initially scheduled for the evening of October 10 at 30 locations across the city, as well as a drone light show intended to celebrate the anniversary.
The scale and timing of seven other events will also be adjusted. For example, the special art programme ‘City of Peace – City of Flying Dragon’ on October 10, initially planned for Mỹ Đình National Stadium, will now take place at the Thăng Long Imperial Citadel.
The city will ensure the necessary infrastructure, equipment and security for the ‘Cultural Festival for Peace’ to commemorate both the 70th anniversary of Hà Nội’s Liberation and the 25th anniversary of the city’s recognition as a ‘City of Peace.’
State-level celebration events
As for the State-level commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of Hà Nội’s Liberation, Đỗ Đình Hồng announced that the event will be held on the morning of October 10 at the National Convention Center, with around 3,000 delegates expected to attend. The Hà Nội People’s Committee has developed a draft plan for national-level celebrations.
The city has also completed a draft plan, which will be submitted to the Party Central Committee’s Propaganda Department, the Secretariat and the National Steering Committee for Major Events for 2022-2025.
In his directive, Chairman Trần Sỹ Thanh emphasised that the events and programmes commemorating the 70th anniversary must highlight Hà Nội’s significant role as the capital of the country. He stressed that communication and promotion efforts surrounding the anniversary must be elevated to reflect the importance of the event.
The chairman also asked all 30 districts in Hà Nội to ensure cleanliness, decorate the streets and create a festive atmosphere to welcome the anniversary, while also remaining mindful of the local context.
On September 24, the Hà Nội Party Standing Committee had decided to cancel all fireworks displays in the city’s 30 districts and towns for the 70th anniversary to focus on recovery efforts following Typhoon Yagi. — VNS
