Inspired by Japanese animated films (anime), a Vietnamese artist has recreated some places in Vietnam in this style.
Recently, the photo series “Beautiful Vietnam” by Nguyen Quang Thinh (Thinh Syan), received a lot of attention from the online community thanks to the unique anime drawing style. The 32-year-old artist shared that he never thought these photos would become so popular.
Refresh the look of Vietnam
Anime is one of the most favorite movie genres among young Vietnamese. Characteristic drawings of Japanese artists have long been a part of the childhood of many Vietnamese.
Quang Thinh is part of that culture. He said he used to work as an anime perspective painter for a company in Ho Chi Minh City for 9 years. However, now he has returned to Nghe An to live and find a new job.
Nghinh Phong Tower in Phu Yen was inspired by Ganh Da Dia. The sunrise scene looks somewhat magnificent with the clouds in the sky and the rising sun between the 2 towers.
“Anime is one of the cultural features of the Japanese people and is increasingly loved around the world. They use this culture to promote the beautiful scenery of the country such as the image of Mount Fuji or the iconic works, temples, neighborhoods,” Quang Thinh said.
The former anime artist shared that he drew a lot of scenes in Japan. Over time, he realized that Vietnam is equally beautiful. Many projects and tourist attractions in the country are attractive but have not been strongly promoted to the world. That prompted him to make the series “Beautiful Vietnam” under anime strokes.
Linh Quy Phap An Pagoda in Lam Dong is quite similar to the architecture appearing in the anime series.
Vietnam has 63 provinces and cities and the 32-year-old artist hopes to recreate the famous spots in each place into anime paintings. However, he has only “released” 5 works. Many other photos are still being shelved because Quang Thinh does not have time and is looking for a new job.
Dream of painting all of Vietnam
Sharing with Zing, the anime artist said that many people looking at the photos will have a feeling of familiarity and reminiscent of the hit movie Your Name. In reality, though, it was inspired by Bubble produced by Wit Studio. Quang Thinh is also the person in charge of the perspective for this film.
The wooden church in Kon Tum is one of this anime artist’s most accomplished drawings.
According to the 32-year-old man, every province in Vietnam has its own iconic sights. He wanted to redraw the scene there to complete his personal collection and share with friends. The criterion is to choose places where just by looking at them, viewers will know where they are.
In the set of photos, there is a painting of Linh Quy Phap An Pagoda (Bao Lam, Lam Dong) completed by Quang Thinh 7 years ago. This is a photo that was originally made for practice purposes only.
He said that when the main idea was formed, Linh Quy Phap An was not the first choice to draw about Lam Dong. Therefore, this artist created another photo of Lam Vien square (Da Lat, Lam Dong).
“To draw an anime perspective picture, there are many methods. Each person will have a different way. For me, the first thing is to choose the picture, sketch. Then I will build, color, and space. Due to the nature of my work, I need architectural accuracy, so I often prioritize the rendering. This is probably also the most time-consuming stage. Each such picture usually takes 2 days or more”, he shared.
Lam Vien Square with the symbol of artichoke flower bud is located in the center of Da Lat city.
Quang Thinh said he was quite surprised by the “coverage” of the series. His original intention was just to share on his personal page and 2 drawing groups. Up to now, the online community’s interest in his “brainchild” has gone beyond thinking.
The artist said that in the near future, when the time is more comfortable, he will complete 2 other paintings in Hue and Ha Giang. He shared that he had traveled to more than half of the provinces across the country.
“The most impressive thing for me is definitely Ha Giang. The first time I came here, I got goosebumps because of the majesty of the mountains. It took me a whole month to lose my nostalgia for this land,” he said.
