The Ministry of Transport has sent a written request to airlines to increase exploitation and reduce fares for flights to and from Can Tho airport in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister.
The Ministry of Transport requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to direct airlines to continue monitoring and researching the market to open new international and domestic routes to and from Can Tho International Airport; effectively implement the airline tourism connection in the Mekong Delta.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam encourages Vietnamese airlines to continue to have preferential price policies on routes to Can Tho; consider prioritizing slot confirmation for these flights.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport also requested the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam to actively work directly with international airlines, introduce and orient them to expand their network of routes to Vietnam, including the destination of Can Tho. Study and develop a project to increase the exploitation of flights to and from Can Tho International Airport, and report to the Ministry in the coming June.
In addition, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) will soon research and bring Can Tho International Airport to ensure 24/7 operation so that it can receive international flights in the evening time frame.
Statistics from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam show that, according to the 2022 summer flight schedule (from March 27 to October 29), three Vietnamese airlines, namely Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways, operate seven routes from Hanoi and Da Nang, Hai Phong, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Phu Quoc and Con Dao to and from Can Tho with a frequency of 125 flights/week (from 16-18 flights/day).
Compared to the same period in 2019 (before the Covid-19 epidemic), there was a reduction of 1 flight route from Nha Trang to Can Tho with an increase in operating frequency of 5 return flights/week.
For international operations, airlines Thai AirAsia (Thailand) and AirAsia (Malaysia) wish to re-operate the routes from Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok to Can Tho through re-applying for slots (takeoff and landing time) in the summer 2022 flight schedule.
