Vietnam confirms 18 new community transmitted Covid-19 cases Wednesday, bringing the total number of local cases in the latest outbreak to 56.

Also on Wednesday evening, the country reported eight imported Covid-19 cases.
Fourteen new cases, numbered from 3009 to 3022, were recorded at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Dong Anh District in the capital city. The source of this contagion has not been identified, according to VNExpress.
Nine of them are patients who were being treated at the hospital for other diseases. The rest are four family members of these patients and one medical staff.
The next four cases were recorded in southern and northern localities.

Patient 2997 is a 27-year-old woman in the central province of Quang Nam who lives in Hoi An Town. She is the wife of a previously confirmed patient, 2982.
Patinet 2998 is a 32-year-old woman from Da Nang City who tested positive with the novel coronavirus in Hanoi. She arrived at the capital city from Da Nang on April 29 on flight VN160 of Vietnam Airlines.
On May 2, she learned that another passenger on the same flight tested positive with the virus and brought herself to a medical facility to be quarantined.
Patient 2999 is a 44-year-old woman in Long Khanh Town in the southern province of Dong Nai. She works in Hai Chau District in Da Nang City and had direct contact with with patient 2982.
Patient 3002 is a 26-year-old man in the northern province of Hai Duong. He also arrived at Hanoi on flight VN160 on April 29 before coming to Hai Duong. He brought himself to a medical facility upon learning that the flight had an infected person.
These cases bring the total number of local Covid-19 patients since April 27 to 56 in 10 localities, led by the northern provinces of Ha Nam and Vinh Phuc at 14, followed by Hanoi at five.
Also on Wednesday evening, the country reported eight imported Covid-19 cases.
Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son said Wednesday that the latest outbreak is basically under control, but the situation remains complicated and people should be on high alert and strictly impose protective measures.

The government has agreed to allocate $524 million set aside from last year to be used for buying Covid-19 vaccines.
Vietnam has extended its quarantine policy from 14 to 21 days for both foreign arrivals and those who come into contact with Covid-19 patients.
The national tally is now at 3,022, with 2,560 recoveries. Over 585,300 people have been vaccinated in 48 localities.
