10 Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from Russia and Myanmar have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,451, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday evening.
According to the ministry’s report, eight men and a woman aged between 26-56 returned from Russia at Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province on December 25.
They were sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on December 27.
The patients are now being treated at local hospitals.
The other patient is a 23-year-old man who illegally entered Vietnam from Myanmar through a border on December 24.
He came to Ho Chi Minh City and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on December 27.
The man is now being treated at the Cu Chi Field Hospital for Covid-19 patients.
With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 758.
As of 6 pm on December 28, a total of 1,318 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, over 17,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
