Five Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from Indonesia, Angola, and Saudi Arabia have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,402, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday evening.
According to the ministry’s report, two of the newly-reported patients arrived at Can Tho International Airport from Indonesia on November 29.
They were sent to a quarantine area in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap upon arrival and are now being treated at the Sa Dec General Hospital.
The next two patients flew from Angola to Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh on December 12 and were quarantined in Thai Binh Province.
They are being treated at the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
The last patient was brought home from Saudi Arabia on December 6 and quarantined in Ninh Binh Province.
The patient is being treated at the Cau Yen Regional General Hospital in Ninh Binh’s Hoa Lu District.
With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 708.
As of 6 pm on December 14, a total of 1,246 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, nearly 20,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
