Over 80% of residents who participated in a poll in Ho Chi Minh City’s districts 2, 4 and Thu Duc agreed to merge those three districts into Thu Duc City.
According to reports from local authorities, 411,112 residents of the three districts voted on the establishment of the city and more than 80% voted yes.
The HCM City People’s Council will hold a meeting on October 12 to give their opinion and then the municipal people’s committee will officially propose the city establishment to the Ministry of Home Affairs by October 25.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh agreed to implement the policy of establishing Thu Duc City in Ho Chi Minh City on the basis of the arrangement of three districts of 2, 9 and Thu Duc to arrange administrative units at district and commune level.
It is expected that Thu Duc City will contribute 30% to HCM City’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and 7% to the country’s GDP.
