Almost all regions of Vietnam will experience a very high UV Index in the next three days, posing serious risks of dealing harm to human health, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) warned.
In large cities including Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, it is unsafe to be outside at noon unprotected since the ultraviolet index at that time can reach levels eight to nine.
The index can climb to 10 in other cities like Da Nang, Quy Nhon, and Da Lat.
A UV Index reading of eight to ten is labeled ‘very high’ by the World Health Organization, meaning there is a very high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.
In addition, the searing heat of the midday sun across the country can cause people to suffer from heatstroke and heat exhaustion, the NCHMF warned.
The likelihood is that scorching sunlight in the northern and north-central cities will linger until Saturday, the center forecast.
To avoid considerable detriment from UV radiation, citizens are advised to leave no skin exposed and take other necessary protective measures when going outside.
