31st SEA Games and 11th Para Games set for November and December of 2021.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has just signed a decision for Vietnam to host the 31st Southeast Asian Games (31st SEA Games) and the 11th Southeast Asian Games for the Disabled (11th Para Games) in 2021.
Eleven countries in Southeast Asia are expected to participate in both Games.
The 31st SEA Games are expected to have 36 events, of which two-thirds are official Olympic events and Asiad events, and participating countries can also propose other events, as is the custom.
Meanwhile, the 11th Para Games are expected to have 14 events, with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to report to the Steering Committee for a decision on what they are.
The 31st SEA Games will be held in late November and early December 2021 and last for about 17 days, while the 11th Para Games are scheduled for the end of December 2021 and will last about eleven days. Some 16,000 people are expected participate in the SEA Games, of which coaches, athletes, and referees will total about 11,000. Some 4,000 people will attend the Para Games, with coaches, athletes, and referees totaling about 2,100 people.
The 31st SEA Games will be held in Hanoi and some nearby localities. The organization process will be reported to the Steering Committee by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for consideration and decision, ensuring the principle of maximum concentration of organization is convenient, economical, and effective.
Funding for the two events will be taken from the State budget, fees for participating delegations, and sponsorships.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment has been assigned to submit to competent authorities for consideration and decide the funding for repairing and upgrading a number of works in service of the two sports events as well as funding support for Hoa Binh province to build a terrain bike race track. Meanwhile, Hanoi will build up overall planning to organize related events, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the SEA Games and Para Games.
The SEA Games have been held 30 times to date, of which Thailand and Malaysia have hosted it six times, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines four times each, Myanmar three times, and Brunei, Vietnam and Laos once.
