During the official visit of the State President To Lam to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Vietnam Airlines announced the launch of the direct Hanoi – Phnom Penh route.
The national airline will operate direct flights between Hanoi and Phnom Penh with a frequency of 4 round-trip flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. These flights will be serviced by modern Airbus A321 jet aircraft.
The new route will commence operation on October 27th. Currently, passengers traveling from Hanoi to Phnom Penh need to transit in Vientiane, Laos, on Vietnam Airlines’ Indochina route.
This new route will increase Vietnam Airlines’ total routes between Vietnam and Cambodia to 5 by the end of October, including 4 direct routes: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City – Phnom Penh; Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City – Siem Reap, and 1 Indochina route. The total number of flights between the two countries will reach 86 flights per week.
The Vietnam – Cambodia route was among the first routes operated by Vietnam Airlines since its establishment 31 years ago.
“This route is highly attractive to travelers combining Vietnam with destinations in the region such as Japan, South Korea, and European countries due to frequent flights and convenient connecting times,” a representative from Vietnam Airlines stated.
Over the past three decades, Vietnam Airlines has transported nearly 8.2 million passengers and 28,400 tons of cargo on over 81,000 flights between Vietnam and Cambodia.
In addition to announcing the new route, Vietnam Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with Cambodia Angkor Air, the Cambodia Tourism Association, and SaigonTourist Group under the framework of the “Two Countries – One Destination” tourism and aviation promotion program.
Under this agreement, Vietnam Airlines will collaborate with partners to enhance two-way tourism promotion, mutual support in promotional activities, marketing, and cooperation in aviation products and services.
A representative from Vietnam Airlines assesses Cambodia as a market rich in potential for aviation and tourism. Over the past 30 years of operation, the combined aviation market of the two countries has averaged 450,000 passengers per year, with an average annual growth rate of 24%.
Vietnam ranks second in terms of tourist arrivals to Cambodia, with over 1 million visitors in 2023. Conversely, Cambodian tourists to Vietnam reached over 400,000, ranking 8th among international markets sending tourists to Vietnam.
