HCM CITY — A painting exhibition featuring the art of thuỷ mặc (ink wash painting) by late People’s Artist Trương Hán Minh has been launched in HCM City.
The event, called Di Sản 71 Năm – Một Đời Thuỷ Mặc (71 Years Working for the Love of Ink Wash Painting Art), is organised by the city’s Fine Arts Association.
It commemorates the one-year anniversary of Minh’s death.
More than 70 works featuring flowers, trees, mountains and rivers are displayed.
Most paintings are vivid and used traditional Chinese ink techniques.

Minh was born in 1951 in Chợ Lớn (Big Market) in HCM City’s District 5.
He is a master of thuỷ mặc. He had more than 60 years of experience in watercolour painting.
His art portrays the Vietnamese spirit and sends messages about love and peace.
He exhibited at many solo and group exhibitions in Việt Nam as well as in Australia, China, France, Malaysia, Japan, Laos and the US.
Many of his works are collected by Vietnamese and foreign collectors.
Minh worked for several art schools in the city and in southern provinces, and was chairman of the Fine Arts Cub of Chinese-Vietnamese Artists and was a member of the Việt Nam Fine Arts Association.
He organised and sent more than 200 of his paintings to auctions for charity work for poor and disabled children and people.
Many of his works feature the beauty of Việt Nam and its people. Highlighted works portray women and children in daily life in remote or mountainous areas.
“Minh’s art evokes viewers’ emotions,” the association’s chairman and painter Nguyễn Xuân Tiên said. “His paintings capture the beauty of the country’s culture and lifestyle.”
The exhibition will run till October 1 at 218A Pasteur Street, District 3. — VNS
