HCM CITY — HCM City is launching two exhibitions honouring soldiers and people who devoted their life to protect and build the nation as a part of its celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).
The first exhibition, themed “Uống Nước Nhớ Nguồn” (When you drink water, think of the source), showcases 72 rare photos and documents on the sacrifices of soldiers and people during the resistance wars.
It includes late President Hồ Chí Minh’s messages to offer encouragement and support for war invalids, wounded veterans, martyrs’ relatives and contributors to the revolution.
The exhibition is being held at Nguyễn Huệ Pedestrian Street in District 1.
Another exhibition set up at Đồng Khởi Street in District 1 displays photos that depict the city’s activities of caring for Heroic Mothers, war invalids, families of martyrs and those who sacrificed their lives for national independence.
It also highlights models of war veterans who overcame their disabilities to run businesses and make positive contributions to society in the post-war period.
Lê Văn Thinh, director of the city’s Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that for years, the municipal Party Committee and authorities and people have shown gratitude to the sacrifice of war veterans and Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.
The city gifted houses and supported veterans to start their businesses, he added.
Thinh said the city also organised a writing contest to honour veterans and show gratitude to their sacrifice.
Both exhibitions remain open until August 6. — VNS
