During the upcoming April 30th and May 1st holidays, passenger traffic through bus terminals in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to increase by approximately 30% compared to the same period. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport estimates that interprovincial bus terminals will serve around 64,400 passengers daily with over 3,000 bus trips, a 26% increase in passenger volume compared to the same period. The department recommends that bus terminals regularly communicate with originating terminals in other provinces and cities to update the situation and promptly adjust bus services when there is a significant increase in travel demand.
At Mien Tay Bus Terminal, the number of buses is expected to increase by over 14%, and passenger volume by over 34% compared to the same period in 2023. The peak day is expected to be April 27th, with departing passengers reaching 61,300 and 2,100 buses leaving. Compared to normal days, passenger volume is expected to increase by over 120%, and bus volume by over 64%.
Similarly, at Mien Dong Bus Terminal, the first two days of the holiday will see the highest number of passengers, with around 16,000-17,000 departing passengers. On other days, the number of passengers will fluctuate between 5,000-7,000. At the new Mien Dong Bus Terminal, there will be a 27% increase in buses and a 37% increase in passengers throughout the holiday, mainly on short routes from Da Nang.
Ferry terminals, the railway sector, and air travel are also expected to experience increased passenger traffic. During this year’s holiday season, the Cat Lai ferry connecting Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) and Nhon Trach District (Dong Nai Province) is expected to operate an average of 282 ferry trips per day, a 22.6% increase compared to the same period. The daily number of passengers is estimated to be around 65,000. Meanwhile, the Binh Khanh ferry will increase by approximately 18% in trips and 11% in passengers.
In the aviation sector, it is forecasted that passenger traffic will increase by about 8% compared to the previous year, reaching approximately 120,000 – 130,000 passengers per day. As for the railway sector, many train services have already been added for the holiday season, with plans to further increase services if passenger demand rises significantly.
