The owner of the winning lottery ticket worth over VND105 billion (US$4.6 million) had not been identified by 3:00 pm on Tuesday for the windfall, said Nguyen Thanh Dam, general director of Vietlott, a state-owned lottery company, on the same day.
The fortunate ticket, which bears the series 02-08-17-20-29-39, was announced following the result in one of the draw categories, Mega 6/45, on December 29, 2017.
It was purchased at 9:46 on the morning of December 27 at a ticket agent in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, southern Vietnam.
Dam said the winnings would be set invalid and constitute abnormal earnings of Vietlott if the owner did not receive the payout, which is exactly equal to VND105,541,617,500, prior to 10:00 pm on Tuesday.
The director also said that 20 percent of the unclaimed money would be used on business income tax, 10 percent on value added tax, and 15 percent on excise while the after-tax profit would be allocated to various funds of Vietlott.
The remaining amount after all such spending is differently distributed to the local budgets of cities and provinces nationwide, and is not supposed to be used as salaries or rewards within the company, he added.
Previously, the owner of the winning ticket printed with 02-06-11-12-25 announced on April 30, 2017 did not show up either.
