The report from the World Economic Forum (WEF) just released shows that Vietnam’s tourism development index in 2023 ranks 59th, down 7 places compared to 2021, behind Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Vietnam’s total score in the ranking is 3.96 out of 7, a decrease of 0.14% compared to the total score of 4.1 in 2021.
In Southeast Asia, Singapore has the highest index, ranking 13th, followed by Indonesia (up 14 places from 36 to 22), Malaysia (35), and Thailand (47). Vietnam’s index is higher than the Philippines (69), Cambodia (86), and Laos (91).
Vietnam’s destinations are less competitive than other countries in the region
The best index for Vietnam’s tourism sector in 2023 is competitive pricing with 5.68 points, ranking 16th; safety and security scored 6.19, ranking 23rd; natural resources ranked 26th, cultural resources ranked 28th, and other resources beyond leisure and recreation ranked 38th…
Meanwhile, the lowest index for Vietnam’s tourism sector this year is service infrastructure with 2.2 points, ranking 80th, and the socio-economic impact of the tourism industry with only 2.95 points, ranking 115th, second to last in the ranking.
The tourism development index is published by WEF every two years, based on five main groups including operating environment, policies and enabling conditions, infrastructure, travel demand drivers, and tourism sustainability. These five indices are divided into 17 fields for scoring such as safety and security; health and hygiene; openness policy; tourism infrastructure, transportation, etc. The 2024 ranking was conducted by WEF with 119 countries and territories.
