HANOI: Vietnam imported 1.41 million mt of coal in March, down 29.5% from the same month in 2017, according to preliminary data released Tuesday by Vietnam Customs.
Indonesia was the biggest supplier of coal in the month with 903,656 mt, spiking 78.1% year on year. But imports from other major suppliers including Australia and Russia fell sharply in March.
In the first three months of 2018, Vietnam imported 3.68 million mt of coal, up 1.9% year on year, mostly from Indonesia, Australia and Russia.
The country also exported 226,482 mt of coal in March, rising 16.9% year on year, mainly to Japan and India.
