Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Education and Training Le Hai An fell to his death on Thursday morning, a source told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
The ministry has also confirmed his death, saying it was due to an “accident.”
At 7:10 am, An fell to the ground from the eighth floor of the D Building at the headquarters of the ministry at 35 Dai Co Viet Street, Hai Ba Trung District, the source said.
Police officers have investigated the scene but they have yet to issue any information on the death.
An was scheduled to attend a meeting chaired by Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha at the headquarters on Thursday morning.
He was born in Hanoi in 1971.
He obtained a degree in geophysical engineering in Moscow, earned a master’s in petroleum engineering in Brunei, and did a PhD in petroleum engineering at Heriot-Watt University, Scotland.
On October 16, An chaired a conference on national level frameworks for health majors in higher education with Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son in Da Nang.
He started working as a teaching assistant at the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology in December 1995.
In November 2018, An was named Deputy Minister of Education and Training, in charge of higher education, when he was the president of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology.
In February 2019, he took on the role of the secretary of the Party organ at the Ministry of Education and Training.
