Sour Fish Soup, a very indigenous sweet and sour soup from Vietnam, has been honored by the international culinary magazine TasteAtlas as one of the top 10 best-rated fish dishes in the world.
According to the announcement, Vietnam’s sour fish soup was rated 4.5 out of 5 stars, surpassing many famous international dishes such as Japan’s Unadon, Sashimi, Salmon Nigiri Sushi, and Korea’s Chamchi Gimbap.
TasteAtlas noted that the term ‘Sour Fish Soup’ generally refers to various types of fish soups in Vietnam, characterized by the combination of sweet, spicy, and sour flavors.
“The soups are usually cooked with a broth made from tamarind or pineapple, tomatoes, okra, bean sprouts, or other vegetables,” TasteAtlas stated.
The renowned magazine also revealed that most fish used in these soups are catfish, although some versions use carp, snakehead fish, eel, and salmon. These soups are often garnished with aromatic herbs and served with rice.
This TasteAtlas list also features Pempek from Indonesia; Shorshe Ilish from India; Tekkadon, Otoro Nigiri Sushi, Maguro Nigiri Sushi, and Chutoro Nigiri Sushi from Japan; Gravlax from Northern Europe, along with Lohikeitto and Kalakeitto from Finland.
