Police in the north-central Vietnamese province of Nghe An have broken up an illegal ring that helped send Vietnamese citizens to work in foreign countries by putting them under the guise of tourists and using fake visas.
The provincial Department of Police confirmed on Saturday it had launched a criminal investigation into the case.
Officers previously arrested and initiated legal proceedings against four suspects for planning to send people abroad against the law.
The probe was carried out following a report from Vu Thi Ly, one of the clients of the ring.
Ly, who resides in Yen Thanh District, Nghe An Province, claimed she had met a woman named Loan, who helped conduct necessary procedures to send her to France for work.
Ly said she arrived in the European country as a tourist but was later expelled for using a fake visa.
Anh colluded with other accessories to find their clients and promised to send them abroad for work.
They ran the racket from September 2015 to January 2019 despite having no legitimate license.
The ring had received more than 400 applications and hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars.
However, none of the clients have been able to go overseas as promised.
