Data from the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport’s Aviation Information Portal shows that 846,434 Korean tourists visited Vietnam in April 2024. This accounts for 31.1% of the total 2,720,557 Korean tourists traveling to Southeast Asia.
Vietnam’s popular destinations, including Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc, have made the country a top choice for Korean travelers in the region.
To accommodate the surge in tourism, Korean airlines are increasing flight frequencies and establishing new routes. In April alone, 173,865 tourists flew from Seoul to Da Nang, 141,130 to Nha Trang, and 53,680 to Phu Quoc, highlighting these areas as emerging favorites among Korean visitors.
Korean low-cost airlines are also ramping up their services. T’way Air, for instance, started a daily Busan-Nha Trang route in May, increasing its total direct flights to Nha Trang to three, with departures from Incheon, Cheongju, and Busan. The Daegu-Nha Trang route, discontinued after May 2019 due to the pandemic, will resume on June 19. Eastar Jet, which already operates Incheon-Nha Trang flights, will launch a new route to Phu Quoc starting July 19, with seven round trips per week.
Vietnam’s popularity among Korean tourists outpaces other Southeast Asian countries. The Philippines, with destinations like Cebu, Manila, and Bohol, ranked second with 364,875 visitors, while Thailand, featuring Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, ranked third with 356,319 Korean tourists.
