Travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler has released a list of the 10 best countries for expats to live in, with Vietnam ranked in 10th place.
The list has been compiled following a survey of more than 22,000 expats worldwide.
Vietnam was able to make the top 10 this year largely due to its strong financial security and positive work-life balance, in addition to its welcoming environment for newcomers.
The majority of expats surveyed said they were able to quickly adjust to the local lifestyle, stating that they felt at home within the first few months after arriving, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Within Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City also tops a list of 10 most affordable cities for American expats with typical monthly costs of $462.62 per person, according to an InterNations’s survey.
The survey, that polled expats already living in major cities around the world, looked at the cost of living, how expats felt about their own finances, and housing availability. The typical rent for a one-bedroom apartment in HCMC was $560.86.
A strong majority (77 percent) of surveyed expats living in Ho Chi Minh City said that they felt satisfied with their living standards and financial conditions.
Around 90,000 foreigners lived and worked in Vietnam, mainly in Hanoi and HCMC, as of last year, according to official data.
