1,112 new cases announced on Monday noon, including 1,105 local ones in HCM City (879), Đồng Nai (82), Tiền Giang (49), Đồng Tháp (38), Hà Nội (26), Phú Yên (9), Bắc Giang (7), Hưng Yên (7), Tây Ninh (3), Bạc Liêu (2), Bình Phước (1), Sóc Trăng (1), Vĩnh Phúc (1). Of these, 998 cases were detected in quarantine or locked down areas, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Monday morning, Vietnam recorded four more Covid-19 deaths, bringing the national fatality to 123 cases, according to VNExpress.
One of the deceased patients was a 44-year-old man treated at the Sa Dec Hospital in the southern province of Dong Thap. He had cancer and cirrhosis. He died on July 8 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19.
Two other patients died at Sa Dec Hospital. A 74-year-old man who had hypertension, diabetes, heart failure and chronic kidney disease died on July 8 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and a heart attack.
A 48-year-old woman who had hypertension, heart failure, ischemic heart disease and chronic kidney failure died the same day due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19 an a heart attack.
In the nearby Long An Province, a 67-year-old woman at the Long An General Hospital tested coronavirus positive on June 29 and died on July 9. Her causes of death were pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and a Klebsiella infection. She had cirrhosis, hepatitis B and heart failure.
As of 12:00, July 12, 88 people have died in Vietnam’s fourth coronavirus wave since late April, VNExpress reported.
Today morning, the Health Ministry confirmed 659 new community transmissions in nine localities.
Of the new cases, 544 were recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, including 369 in quarantine zones and areas under lockdown. 175 others have unknown sources of transmission.
Mekong Delta’s Tien Giang Province registered 43 cases that are all associated with a previously confirmed patient.
The central province of Khanh Hoa reported 27 cases linked to an existing case.
Vinh Long Province in the delta got 26 cases that comprise 24 related to a cluster at a company in Long Ho District and two with unidentified infection sources.
The delta’s An Giang Province registered eight cases, with six having direct contact with Covid-19 cases and the other two being contact traced.
The southern province of Binh Phuoc recorded five cases, with four associated with previously confirmed patients, one linked to Thu Duc wholesale market in HCMC, and two being contact traced.
The four cases in the central Phu Yen Province are all recorded in isolated areas.
Both cases in the central Thua Thien Hue and Nghe An provinces had made contact with Covid-19 patients prior to their positive test results.
Since April 27, when the new wave began in Vietnam, local infections have been recorded in 58 of the nation’s 63 cities and provinces.
More than 4 million of the nation’s 96-million population have been vaccinated against the new coronavirus and 277,447 have got two doses, according to VNExpress.
