According to the Government Online Newspaper, on December 11, the People’s Committee Office of Thua Thien Hue revealed that the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism issued a decision to include the Hue Nam Temple Festival (Huong Tho Commune, Hue City) and the Van Cu Vermicelli-Making Craft (Huong Toan Commune, Huong Tra Town) in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
The Hue Nam Temple Festival, also known as Hon Chen Temple Festival, is a traditional practice dedicated to the worship of the Holy Mother Thien Y A Na. Held annually in the third and seventh lunar months, the festival is characterized by its lively atmosphere and attracts thousands of followers of the Mother Goddess worship tradition, making it a unique cultural hallmark of the ancient capital.
The festival not only preserves and promotes the cultural values associated with the Hue Nam Temple relic but also contributes to enhancing the tourism appeal of Thua Thien Hue. Additionally, it is closely linked to the Mother Goddess Tam Phu worship belief system, which UNESCO has recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Meanwhile, the Van Cu Vermicelli-Making Craft boasts over 400 years of history and is famous for its ivory-white vermicelli with a distinct flavor. Currently, more than 100 households in the village participate in production, supplying vermicelli to markets, restaurants, and eateries nationally, providing a stable source of income for the local community.
This recognition not only affirms the heritage value of Thua Thien Hue but also serves as a motivation to preserve and develop the region’s rich cultural traditions.
