Three Indian nationals and eight Vietnamese people have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 2,996.
According to the Health Ministry’s report, one of the eight new Vietnamese patient is a locally-transmitted case who resides in Danang City. The 25-year-old woman had earlier made contact with a Covid-19 patient. She is currently being isolated to receive treatment at Danang Lung Hospital.
The three Indian men and seven other Vietnamese people recently arrived in Vietnam from abroad and were sent to local quarantine facilities upon arrival. They are now being treated at hospitals in Hanoi, Danang, and Ho Chi Minh cities, and Hung Yen, Ha Tinh, and Khanh Hoa provinces, Dan Tri Newspaper reported.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,996, including 1,608 locally-transmitted cases.
Theaters, massage parlors, spas, and gyms in Hanoi will be shut starting Wednesday to cope with the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, municipal authorities said.
Municipal vice chairman Chu Xuan Dung also said at a meeting Tuesday that events like birthday parties, death anniversaries, weddings and grand openings of establishments are to be limited to the maximum extent, reported the VNExpress.
With the latest order, Hanoi has now suspended most of its non-essential services as it attempts to curb Covid-19 community transmissions.
It had already suspended street food vendors, cafes, bars, dance clubs, karaoke parlors, pedestrian streets and halted all festivals.
As of Tuesday, Hanoi had recorded four Covid-19 community cases in the ongoing outbreak that started April 29 after Vietnam had gone clean for more than a month.
As of 6 pm on May 4, a total of 2,560 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, over 40,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
