According to the leader of Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC), this unit is worried that there will be a shortage of taxis to serve passengers on the upcoming peak occasion of April 30.
Specifically, Mr. Dang Ngoc Cuong – Director of Tan Son Nhat International Airport – said that on the peak occasion of April 30, both domestic and international terminals welcome about 42,000 arrivals and departures each day. On some peak days, the number of passengers can be higher depending on the flight time frame.
According to statistics, about 15% of passengers arriving at Tan Son Nhat airport will use a taxi to move home. That is, about 6,300 taxis are expected to pick up passengers per day. The airport has actively worked and signed an agreement with taxi companies to commit to providing a sufficient number of vehicles on peak occasions.
According to Mr. Cuong, there are currently 7,850 taxis of all kinds serving passengers at Tan Son Nhat during peak times. In which, for taxi the most is Vinasun with 1,600 cars, followed by Mai Linh with 1,250 cars, companies like SG Tourist 200 cars and Vina Gold 300 cars.
Meanwhile, with technology car companies, Grab is at the top with 2,500 cars, Be has 800 cars. In addition, contract vehicles such as Avi, Sasco, Song Viet,… also contributed about 1,250 vehicles.
Airport leaders said that if the number of passengers on the peak occasion increased to 60,000 passengers going to Tan Son Nhat, about 9,000 taxis would be needed. Thus, it is expected that there will be a shortage of about 1,100 vehicles to serve passengers.
The leader of Tan Son Nhat airport said that in the morning of April 7, the unit will continue to meet with taxi companies to ask for a sufficient number of passenger cars as committed; have a flexible vehicle dispatching plan, prioritizing the airport area. It is recommended that passengers actively book a car in advance.
The airport also does not rule out that it is possible to add more transport companies, “However, the number of vehicles of other carriers is very small, only a few dozen to more than 100 vehicles, unable to meet the needs of Tan Son Nhat”, according to Mr. Cuong.
