A GrabBike driver had had an intuitive feeling that the two passengers he was going…

A GrabBike driver had had an intuitive feeling that the two passengers he was going to carry could do something harmful to him, so he decided to take a photo of them, before he was indeed murdered and the picture became an important lead for police investigation.
Police in Hanoi said late Monday they had arrested two men for allegedly stabbing the GrabBike driver, Nguyen Cao S., to death last week, using the photo the victim had taken of the suspects and sent to a friend of his before the deadly ride.
Dinh Van Truong, 19, and Dinh Van Giap, 24, were apprehended when they were hiding in the northern province of Yen Bai, about 155 kilometers from Hanoi, where the alleged murder took place, at around 6:00 pm on Monday.
The men were brought back to Bac Tu Liem District in the capital to assist the investigation, an official from the Hanoi police department told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
Truong and Giap are the prime suspects in the murder of S., an 18-year-old college freshman who worked after school as a GrabBike driver in Hanoi.
Police reports showed that the incident happened in Thuy Phuong Ward, Bac Tu Liem District on the night of September 26.
Before picking up Truong and Giap, S. had taken a photo of them and sent it to his roommate, Long, asking him give it to police officers “if anything bad happens.”
Long told officers he had tried to call S. multiple times later that night, but his roommate never answered.
S.’s family then reported his missing to police, before his body was found in a secluded area in Bac Tu Liem District on the evening of September 28.
As the student showed signs of being murdered, a manhunt was later initiated for the suspects based on the photo the victim had sent his friend.
According to Giap’s statements, he and Truong booked a ride from My Dinh Bus Station to Co Nhue Ward that day.
In the middle of the journey, Giap told S. that they did not have any money and asked if they could pay the fare on another day.
S. did not agree, before an argument broke out between Giap and the driver.
During the quarrel, S. threw Giap’s bag on the ground, so Giap stabbed him multiple times with a swift knife.
S. then ran away as he screamed for help.
Truong and Giap took his motorcycle and fled to their hometown in Yen Bai Province, but did not steal his smartphone.
Meanwhile, Truong claimed he was standing from a distance during the quarrel, thus he was not aware that Giap had stabbed the victim.
Both suspects said they did not know that S. had succumbed to the wounds.
They also had no idea police were hunting for them as they did not read the news.
Further investigation is ongoing.

Four women who are involved in a ‘corpse-in-concrete’ case in the southern Vietnamese province of Binh Duong have confessed to murder, claiming that they and the victims were Falun Gong followers.
An official from the provincial Department of Police confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the suspects had admitted to killing one man, while stating that another had committed suicide.
“We are conducting further investigation to determine the exact role of each woman in the murder, as well as their motive,” the policeman stated.
The four suspects include Pham Thi Thien Ha, 31, her mother, 66-year-old Trinh Thi Hong Hoa, along with Le Phu Hanh, 54, and Le Thi Phuong Thao, 29.
The victims have been identified as Tran Tri Thanh, a Ho Chi Minh City resident, and Tran Duc Linh, who hailed from north-central Nghe An Province.
They were said to be between 30 and 35 years old.
According to the suspects’ statements, they and the two victims were followers of Falun Gong, a Chinese religious spiritual practice.
Their group rented a house on D2 Street in Ben Cat District, Binh Duong Province to practice the spiritual discipline.
After some members left the group, the other followers decided to relocate to keep their activities a secret.
Ha then rented the house of Nguyen Minh Vuong in Bau Bang District, also in Binh Duong, in October 2018.
During their practices, the two men developed some conflicts with the four women.
One of the men, Linh, eventually committed suicide by jumping off the house roof.
The other members then kept Linh’s body inside a room. As his body began decomposing, they put it into a barrel and covered it tightly with tape.

The house where the bodies were discovered. After a while, the women thought that Thanh was no longer a suitable member, so they planned on murdering him.
The suspects first rendered him unconscious by electrocuting him, before strangling him to death.
The women also kept Thanh’s body inside a room while they continued their religious exercises.
As the corpse started to smell, they threw it into another barrel and filled it with concrete.
In April 2019, they returned the house to Vuong, who then sold it in May.
The new owner discovered the concrete-filled barrel on Wednesday night and found Thanh’s body as he was breaking up the concrete.
Police officers then searched the house and found Linh’s body the following day.
The women were apprehended on Friday night when they were staying at a hotel in Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong, about 50km from the murder scene.

Vietnamese police have apprehended a suspect in the killing on Wednesday of three people in…

Vietnamese police have apprehended a suspect in the killing on Wednesday of three people in a family, allegedly resulting from a personal animus toward one of the victims who had opposed the suspect watching porn at her house.
Officers said on Thursday that they had arrested Tran Trong Luan, a 34-year-old man from Tan Uyen Town in Binh Duong, a province around 35km to the east of Ho Chi Minh City, the day before.
Luan is accused of killing three family members, including a grandmother, a daughter, and a grandchild, in Tan Uyen.
The suspect, who was the victims’ neighbor, would watch porn on his smartphone whenever he came to the house of Dao Thi Thu Cuc, 54, for coffee, as the place doubles as a coffee shop, according to preliminary reports.
He was told to go home by Tran Thi Quynh Nhi, Cuc’s 17-year-old daughter, each time he opened porn, leading to his animosity toward the young girl.
Luan intended to commit suicide after losing all of his money in gambling on Tuesday evening.
But the intention of killing Nhi suddenly crossed his mind so he carried three knives and a machete to the coffee shop around 0:00 on Wednesday.
He was breaking into the house through the roof when Cuc found him. He then slashed her with the machete to death before going on to murder Nhi and her niece, 8-year-old Nguyen Thi Bao Ngan.
Police officers found the weapons Luan had thrown 100 meters away from the crime scene.
The crime story unfolded when neighbors heard dogs barking continuously at 3:00 am on Wednesday but they did not check the area, thinking someone might be working at the sand strip nearby.
At 7:00 am, Cuc’s eldest adult child Tran Minh Phuong dropped by to pick up her daughter, Ngan, on the way to work when she saw the little girl lying motionless on the floor amid blood.
She shouted for help from neighbors who rushed in to see Cuc and Nhi also dead.
Police were informed of the crime shortly.
They captured Luan after a raid on Wednesday. During the raid, the suspect tried to kill himself with poison but he survived after police took him to the hospital.
The suspect admitted to his crime at the police station.
Police in Phu My Town, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province confirmed on Wednesday that they had arrested Huynh Van Chung, 43, a resident of District 9, Ho Chi Minh City, for a hit and run which caused the death of a traffic cop.
According to preliminary information, Chung was driving a Ford Ranger when he hit multiple cars and motorcycles in the southern province of Dong Nai.
Rather than stop, Chung immediately fled the scene.
Some residents ran after him and managed to pull him over, but the driver injured one person and threatened the other with his axe.

A Cambodian man has been arrested for purportedly murdering a Vietnamese motorbike taxi (xe om)…

A Cambodian man has been arrested for purportedly murdering a Vietnamese motorbike taxi (xe om) driver in an incident where he claimed to have acted out of self-defense.
Colonel Luu Thanh Tin, deputy director of the police department in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, confirmed on Sunday that officers had apprehended Soc Tha, a 64-year-old Cambodian national.
Tha, a temporary resident in Kien Giang, was captured when he was staying in Cambodia, according to Tin.
The murder suspect was escorted to Kien Giang for investigation on Saturday, Tin added.
The incident happened at around 9:00 pm on January 22, when Tha had a Vietnamese motorbike taxi driver named L. carry him to a friend’s house in My Thuan Commune, Hon Dat District, according to his statement.
After negotiation, the driver and passenger agreed that the ride would cost VND70,000 (US$3).
But upon arriving at the destination, Tha found out that his friend was not at home, thus he asked L. to take him to another place.
Moments into the second journey, the driver demanded that Tha pay him for the first trip.
L. wanted VND170,000 ($7.3) instead of VND70,000, explaining that he had previously quoted the wrong price, citing differences between “daytime and nighttime fares.”
As Tha refused to pay, the driver requested that he get off his vehicle, sparking an argument between them.
As they were quarreling, the driver pulled out a knife and attacked Tha, according to the Cambodian man’s account.
The passenger managed to disarm his attacker. When L. ran away from the scene, Tha chased after him and cut his throat with the victim’s own weapon.
Tha dumped the body in a roadside ditch and rode L.’s motorbike to nearby An Giang Province. He then abandoned the vehicle and headed to Cambodia.
The suspect insisted that his action was self-defense.
Kien Giang police said further investigation is ongoing, adding that the suspect was convicted of murder in 2011 by the provincial People’s Court and had served a seven-year jail term.

A gang of five men held a young woman hostage for days, took turns to…

A gang of five men held a young woman hostage for days, took turns to rape her before killing the victim in the northern Vietnamese province of Dien Bien early this month, police said as they wrapped up a week-long probe into the case that sent shockwaves through the country on Monday.
Dien Bien police on Monday held a press conference to release for the first time the full results of their investigation into the murder of Cao Thi My Duyen, a 22-year-old college student who was found dead on February 7, days after she went missing.
Officers said they had arrested and launched criminal investigation against all five suspects in the case.
Duyen, who helped her mother run a poultry stall at a local wet market, was last seen delivering 13 live chickens to a customer on the afternoon of February 4, said Sung A Hong, Dien Bien police chief.
Her mother reported to police her daughter’s disappearance later the same day after multiple failed attempts to reach Duyen on her phone, Hong said.
A search for Duyen was launched and her body was eventually found three days later, on the morning of February 7, inside a pigpen at an abandoned house that was a one-hour drive from her home in Dien Bien.
Duyen’s body was found half-naked, wearing only a long-sleeved top and underpants, with her face covered by a helmet, police said.
The first police autopsy showed the young woman was killed by strangling.
The murder shocked the country and sparked disturbing rumor that Duyen had been gang-raped before being killed.
The rumor has now been confirmed by police, who told the press on Monday that the men admitted to abducting and raping the young woman before strangling her to death.
On February 10, Dien Bien police arrested and launched a probe against Vuong Van Hung, the customer who had bought the chickens and asked for them to be delivered by Duyen on the day she went missing.
Hung was initially placed under investigation for “murder” and “property appropriation,” as police said evidence was insufficient at the time to subject him to another charge.
Between February 12 and 15, police launched criminal investigation against and arrested four other suspects – Bui Van Cong, Pham Van Nhiem, Luong Van Hung, and Luong Van La – on charges including murder, rape, property appropriation, possession of narcotics, and illegal detention of a person.
On Sunday, Dien Bien police and Ministry of Public Security specialists unearthed the corpse of Duyen for a second autopsy after finding the suspects’ testimonies conflicting with earlier autopsy results.
According to the provincial police chief, Bui Van Cong and Vuong Van Hung have been identified as the masterminds behind the kidnap and murder of Duyen.
The duo had elaborated on a robbery plan that involved setting Duyen up to deliver chickens to a deserted place to appropriate her assets.
After Duyen arrived at a designated address in the provincial capital of Dien Bien Phu on February 4, Hung used a nunchaku to strangle her until she passed out.
He then called Cong and Nhiem to the abandoned place and the three of them took turns to raped the student’s body.
Duyen was then locked inside the back of a truck owned by Cong and driven to the man’s house.
On the morning of February 6, Luong Van Hung and Luong Van La visited Cong’s house, climbed into the back of his truck and raped Duyen.
Noticing that Duyen’s health was deteriorating quickly, the suspects got together on the same afternoon to plot her murder, committing it and disposing of the victim’s body at another abandoned house in rural Dien Bien District, around 30 kilometers from her home.
“The suspects employed sophisticated tricks to erase evidence and used their alibis to cover up the crime,” Hong, the Dien Bien police chief, said on Monday.

Điện Biên Province Police have decided to prosecute Vương Văn Hùng, who was accused of…

Điện Biên Province Police have decided to prosecute Vương Văn Hùng, who was accused of robbing and killing university student Cao Mỹ Duyên on February 4, Major General Sùng A Hồng announced on Wednesday.
Homeless man Hùng, 35, from Tân Thuỷ bloc, Tuần Giáo District in the northern mountainous province of Điện Biên, has four past legal violations and three crimes on his record.
Hùng was allegedly involved in the death of 22-year-old Duyên, who had been living in Thanh Hưng Commune, Điện Biên District.
According to the investigation force, there might be others involving in the case but they have not yet been identified. Therefore, there will be additional prosecution and changes to the charges if there are new findings.
The police have summoned Trần Văn Công in the district’s Thanh Nưa Commune, the owner of a truck in which Duyên’s blood was found.
At 6:30pm on February 4 (the last day of the last Lunar Year), Duyên was reported missing on her way to deliver chickens to a strange customer in Điện Biên Phủ City’s Thanh Trường Ward.
At 10:30am on February 7, her body was found at an abandoned house in Thanh Nưa Commune, Điện Biên District.
Crime scene examinations and the autopsy showed that she was strangled.
Hùng was arrested on February 10. Initially, Hùng admitted he had killed the victim to steal her belongings.
The police seized a motorbike, ATM card, eight chickens and a cage hidden at different places.
On February 11, Duyên’s mobile phone and a SIM card that Hùng had used to call her were found at the house of Hùng’s uncle, Vương Văn Nghĩa, in which he stayed from February 2 until being arrested.
The provincial police are continuing to investigate the case to administer proper punishments.
According to Major General Hồng, information spread on social media may not be entirely accurate and could negatively affect the victim’s family.
