Vietnam’s domestic flight route has entered the top four busiest routes in the world, alongside those of Korea and Japan.
From October 2021 to the end of September 2022, the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route has sold more than 8.5 million seats, just behind 3 other routes, Jeju – Seoul (South Korea) with more than 16 million seats; Sapporo New Chitose Apt – Tokyo with more than 10 million seats and Fukuoka – Tokyo (Japan) with more than 9.8 million seats. These are statistics from OAG, the world’s leading provider of travel data and insights, headquartered in the UK.
This shows the strong recovery of Vietnam’s domestic aviation market after the epidemic. In 2019, the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route also reached the top 6 in the world in this index.
According to OAG statistics, 9 out of the 10 busiest flight routes in the world are located in the Asia Pacific region. In addition to the top 4, the 5th to 10th positions on this list are Jeddah – Riyadh King Khalid (Saudi Arabia), Melbourne – Sydney (Australia), Mumbai – Delhi (India), Tokyo – Okinawa Naha (Japan), Jakarta Soekamo – Hatta Apt – Denpasar (Indonesia), Beijing – Shanghai (China).
Data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam showed that in the first 9 months of this year, the output of outbound flight operators reached 351,000 flights, an increase of 117.8% over the same period in 2021, transit operations reached 127,000 flights, an increase of 59. 1% over the same period in 2021.
The number of passengers through 22 airports in 9 months reached 75 million, up 162.4% over the same period in 2021. Of which, international arrivals reached 6.7 million, up 1797.2% over the same period last year. In 2021, domestic visitors reached 68.3 million, up 141.2% over the same period in 2021.
Domestic airlines carried 37 million passengers, up 157% over the same period in 2021, including 2.9 million international passengers and 34 million domestic passengers.
In June, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) assessed Vietnam as number one on the list of 25 countries with the fastest recovery in the domestic aviation market in the world. The next positions are Mexico, Brazil, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Australia, respectively.
