During the peak period from April 26th to May 1st, representatives of Tan Son Nhat Airport stated that they expect to serve 4,280 flights with nearly 690,000 passengers.
Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of flights has decreased by 186 flights, resulting in a decrease of nearly 70,000 passengers. Last year’s peak day during the holiday season saw Tan Son Nhat Airport serving up to 810 flights, but this year, that number has dropped to only 740 flights.
Interestingly, while the number of international flights during this holiday season has increased by 222 flights, from 1,380 flights in 2023 to 1,602 flights this year, the number of domestic flights has seen a significant decline, from 3,080 flights to 2,678 flights.
The number of international passengers arriving in Vietnam and domestic passengers has reversed this holiday season, with an increase of 27,000 international passengers but a decrease of over 96,000 domestic passengers.
According to experts’ assessments, the domestic aviation market seems subdued compared to the same period due to the high increase in airfare, leading to fewer passengers passing through Tan Son Nhat Airport.
According to the leadership of Tan Son Nhat Airport, the number of passengers and flight frequency during this holiday season has increased compared to regular days but still falls far short of the Lunar New Year holiday. Therefore, the flight service process will not be overly tense, and congestion in the terminals will significantly reduce, allowing for smoother passenger movements.
However, the airport has devised a plan to coordinate with relevant parties to regulate and prevent congestion, ensuring order.
In this plan, units will increase inspections and monitoring of people and vehicles entering and exiting. The camera system in the check-in area, baggage conveyor belts, etc., will also be reviewed and prepared thoroughly to ensure security.
Moreover, during peak travel days of the holiday season, the airport will deploy additional staff to assist passengers in the security screening area, domestic terminal public hall, etc.
