On the morning of May 25, 2022, the delegation of Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee led by Mr. Lam Minh Thanh, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee had a meeting with leaders of the Phu Quoc City People’s Committee and consulting units listen to reports on the city’s general plan to 2040.
According to the National Institute of Urban and Rural Planning, Ministry of Construction, the overall spatial development orientation of the city by 2040, Phu Quoc will have 12 development zones based on landscape features, natural ecology, topographical features and other current conditions.
The zoning will take advantage of the potentials and opportunities of each specific area in the planning area, creating conditions for Phu Quoc to develop dynamically, effectively and with socio-economic identity, landscape with quality commensurate with that of a grade 1 city and an international tourist city.
Accordingly, Phu Quoc will develop tourist urban areas and functional areas in coastal and riverside areas, along natural ecological corridors. However, in these areas, slow traffic will be organized, with priority is given to walking and cycling, the size of the road is just enough, not too large so as not to degrade the quality of the tourist city, creating the urban structure is closely related to the ecological, landscape and topographic characteristics of each area.
In addition, the general plan also needs to supplement the new development land fund with an appropriate scale, adjacent to the existing residential areas, supplementing functions and completing the space for existing residential areas, especially public spaces, beliefs, storage and processing…
Lam Minh Thanh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Kien Giang province, requested the consulting unit, the National Institute of Urban and Rural Planning and the Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo Group, to follow the current legal bases to implement the regulation planning, regularly updating legal regulations to supplement and complete the planning project.
The consultant should pay special attention to traffic issues, urban drainage infrastructure for Phu Quoc, as well as pay attention to the protection of national forests and the city’s agricultural land fund.
