BANGKOK – A contract was signed on June 16 for the construction of a multi-purpose hall at the Hồ Chí Minh Memorial Site in the Thai northeastern province of Udon Thani, part of the site expansion project to honour the legacy of Việt Nam’s revered leader.
The 22 million THB (US$680,000) hall construction is slated for completion within three years, just in time for the 2028 centennial of President Hồ Chí Minh’s arrival in Thailand.
The 400-capacity venue will be the go-to spot for the Vietnamese community in Udon Thani, hosting major events like Việt Nam’s National Day and President Hồ Chí Minh’s birthday celebrations.
Vietnamese Consul General in Khon Kaen Đinh Hoàng Linh, in his speech, described the hall as a hub for cultural and community activities of the overseas Vietnamese (OVs), calling its completion a fitting tribute to Hồ Chí Minh, a national liberation hero and distinguished man of culture.
He praised the Vietnamese community and the memorial site’s management board for their dedication to keeping the late President’s cultural legacy alive, urging them to continue fostering unity and sharing Vietnamese cultural values with Thai locals and international visitors.
The event also saw significant support from Vietnamese philanthropists in Udon Thani and neighboring Nong Khai province who donated over 1 million THB to give the project a serious boost. — VNA/VNS
