The New Zealand Herald (NZ Herald) recently described Hoi An as one of the most beautiful destinations in Vietnam and highly recommended it as a place to visit.
Katie Lockhart, a writer for NZ Herald, offered several suggestions for first-time visitors to this ancient town in Vietnam. According to Lockhart, enjoying coffee at small street-side cafes is one of the most unique experiences in Hoi An.
“You shouldn’t miss the chance to try a variety of impressive coffees here, including coconut coffee, salted coffee, or iced milk coffee,” Lockhart said.

Once known as one of the busiest and most vibrant trading ports for centuries, Hoi An is famous for its bespoke souvenirs such as hats, lanterns, and traditional dresses (ao dai).
In particular, it is also dubbed the “paradise” of street food. According to Lockhart, just walking down any street in Hoi An, visitors can find numerous delicious dishes at reasonable prices.
“Don’t forget to visit Tran Cao Van street to enjoy the signature Hoi An banh mi at Madam Khanh’s, then you can walk across the street to taste the local specialty cao lau at Cao Lau Lien.
If you still have room in your stomach, walk a few more meters to Mi Quang 92 to savor the best version of this dish,” NZ Herald suggested.
Additionally, the newspaper advises tourists to explore the ancient town of Vietnam by bicycle, which most accommodations provide for borrowing. For those who wish to travel further, renting a motorbike or using ride-hailing apps is easy.
In recent years, Hoi An has consistently attracted global media attention. Recently, the prestigious architectural magazine Architectural Digest listed Tran Phu street in Hoi An among the most beautiful streets in the world.
The famous American travel site Travel Off Path revealed that Hoi An is among the top 7 trending destinations in the world for 2024.
Vietnam’s ancient town also surpassed many well-known places such as the Maldives and Venice, becoming the second favorite destination in Tripadvisor’s list of 25 dream honeymoon destinations for 2024.
