Two newborn twins in the central province of Nghe An died just hours after being given a Hepatitis B vaccine.
Director of Nghe An Provincial Department of Health, Duong Dinh Chinh, confirmed at a meeting on Wednesday morning that the incident happened at Tay Bac Nghe An Hospital in Nghia Dan District.
According to a report from the department, the babies were born on October 9 with the weight of 3.3 kilos and 3.1 kilos. Two days later, they were injected with a Hepatitis B vaccine.
However, four hours after the vaccination, one of the babies had symptoms of vomiting, respiratory failure and heart problems. Despite doctors’ efforts to save her, the baby died.
The other also faced the same condition shortly after that and died after being moved to the Nghe An Provincial Children’s Hospital.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
