The Made-in-Vietnam Covid-19 vaccine is expected to cost VND120,000 per shot and have an equivalent efficacy of better than 90 percent compared to those being developed by some other countries.
On December 10, Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC (Nanogen) which developed the Covid-19 vaccine Nanocovax and the Vietnam Military Medical University started to recruit volunteers for the first phase human trials.
Speaking with Dantri/DTiNews, Nanogen’s director for research and development, Do Minh Si, said that Nanocovax was produced following protein synthesis technology and repeated tests of toxicity and other tests on mice and monkeys have proved its safety and efficacy.
“We’ve carried out various tests on mice, hamsters, rabbits, and monkeys,” he said.. “All the tests showed that Nanocovax was safe and effective.”
According to Nanogen, there will be three phases of human trials and the first phase will require 60 volunteers who will receive vaccine shots from December 17.
All three clinical trial phases are expected to complete by the fourth quarter of 2021 with the last phase seeing the participation of 30,000 people.
“The price for a Nanocovax shot will be VND120,000 (USD5) and each person needs two shots,” Si said.
