Produced pulp volume in the world reached 156.8 million tons in 2017, an increase of 3.1 million tons, equivalent to 2.0% over 2016 as series of new production line to be invested in the period 2016-2019 are expected a supply booming of pulp on the market in the future.
Asian pulp consumption volume has been leading the world with 60.8 million tons in 2016, up 1.5 million tons, equivalent to 2% over 2015. In 2017, global pulp volume reached nearly xxx million tons, increasing by 1.6% compared to the consumption of xxx million tons in 2016.
In the 1st quarter of 2018, the export value of pulp and paper of Vietnam was xxx.x million USD, up 48.2% compared to the same period of 2017, accounting for 0.38% of total export turnover. Number of enterprises in the paper industry has been increasing at the rate of 5.96%. It was 2,487 enterprises in only the year 2016. In Q1/2018, pulp volume reached xx,xxx tons, a sharp decline over previous years. This is due to the shortage in the production line and the shortage of raw materials, the industry has to compete with the wood processing industry while the plantation forest is not much.
Domestic pulp consumption has fluctuated according to the trend of pulp production. In 2017, the number of consumed pulp positively increased by 11.2% to 171,319 tons in comparison with that in 2016. The revenue from pulp has many fluctuations. In Q1/2018, pulp consumption sharply plunged to about xxx.x billion dong due to shrinking production.
From 2011 to 2017, the production of paper grew at the CAGR of 6.62%. In the 1st quarter of 2018, the quantity of produced paper reached approximately xxx thousand tons, an increase of over 60% compared to the same period of last year. Thanks to the large-capacity plants that have been operating well since Q4/2017 and continuing to increase production in the first months of 2018. Paper consumption in Vietnam market has been rapidly increasing at the annual average rate of 7.37% between 2011 and 2017. In Q1/2018, due to a sharp increase in paper volume, paper consumption also grew positively, estimated at more than x.x million tons of paper consumed. The number of exported paper of Vietnam in Q1/2018 was about 51 thousand tons which valued xxx.x million USD, increasing by 48.2% compared with the same period of 2017.
It is forecast that after some large pulp factories come into operation as VNT19 with capacity of 350,000 tons of pulp per year, or more stable operation after trial period in 2017 of Hau Giang factory (Lee & Man) (the capacity of 330,000 tons of pulp per year), pulp production capacity of Vietnam will be raising to meet domestic production demand.
