Nguyen Hong Nhung, the COVID-19-infected patient No. 17 traveled to many countries including the UK, France, and Italy but was not detected upon entry.
Hanoi recorded its first COVID-19 positive case on March 6, 2020, a 26-year-old female patient, Nguyen Hong Nhung; career: hotel management; resident of Truc Bach Street, Truc Bach Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi. The Ministry of Health announced she was the 17th patient infected with COVID-19 in Vietnam.
Before that, Patient No. 17 had traveled to many countries including the UK, France, and Italy, but was not detected to have passed through pandemic-affected areas upon entry.
A representative from Noi Bai International Airport Border Gate Police said that on February 15, 2020, Nguyen Hong Nhung had used two passports to check-in and out of flight VN0055 according to their itinerary from Vietnam to the UK.
On March 2, 2020, on flight VN0054 from the UK to Noi Bai, passenger Nguyen Hong Nhung continued to use her Vietnamese passport to undergo immigration procedures.
After passing through the medical examination area to immigration, Noi Bai Border Police carefully checked the pages of her passport and saw no signs of an exit from Italy. Normal entry procedures were resolved and she was cleared by immigration.
On March 2, the patient experienced symptoms of mild fever and coughing. She went to Hong Ngoc Hospital, at 55 Yen Ninh campus, where an X-ray was done, which showed a cloudy image at the bottom of her right lung.
On March 6, the patient was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases 2 (Kim Chung, Dong Anh) for monitoring and tested positive for COVID-19.
Immediately after the test results became available, at 22:00 on the same day, Hanoi officials held an urgent meeting with the Steering Committee for pandemic prevention, in order to quickly localize and implement measures. A section of Truc Bach street (Hanoi), spanning 66 households and 189 people, were quarantined to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
On the afternoon of March 7, the Ministry of Health announced that two people who’d had close contact with female patient Nguyen Hong Nhung, her aunt and the family driver of the patient, were infected with COVID-19.
On March 14, 14 people on flight VN0054 of Vietnam Airlines, from London (UK), which landed in Noi Bai airport, tested positive for COVID-19./.
