- Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung has asked the Ministry of Defence to transfer over 16 hectares of land for the construction of a new terminal at the Tan Son Nhat Airport.

The ministry has started land-use planning for national defence for the 2021-2030 period to help speed up the Tan Son Nhat expansion project. 16.05ha of land will be transferred to HCM City People’s Committee that must develop HCM City’s planning for the 2021-2030 period as well as the five-year land-use planning and Tan Binh District land-use planning in 2021.
Lai Xuan Thanh, chairman of the Board of Airports Corporation of Vietnam, said the new terminal would cost VND11trn (USD474m). The investor is completing all required procedures to start construction this October. The project is expected to be completed in two years. In order to meet the schedule, the Ministry of Defence must transfer the land this second quarter.
A road project leading to the new terminal and connecting Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa streets will also be started at the same time. The project requires 11.8ha of land.
HCM City authorities will ask the Ministry of Defence to convert 11.8ha of land into public land for traffic infrastructure.
