HCM CITY — The HCM City Department of Culture and Sports will organise the annual Tết (the Lunar New Year) Book Fair from January 29 to February 4 at several locations in the downtown area.
To be held on Mạc Thị Bưởi, Nguyễn Huệ and Ngô Đức Kế streets and Book Pedestrian Street in District 1, this year it has the theme ‘Xuân Quê Hương – Ấm Tình Nhân Ái’ (Homeland Spring – Full of Love), and hopes to promote the reading culture among people and offer entertainment and cultural spots during the Tết holidays.
The highlight of the fair will be an exhibition called ‘Xuân Chia Sẻ’ (Sharing in Spring) of documents, publications and photos to mark 92 years of the establishment of the Communist Party of Việt Nam on February 3.
It will also feature articles and photos related to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the city.
The HCM City Journalists Association will display more than 100 articles by major newspapers and magazines like Tuổi Trẻ (Youth), Thanh Niên (Young People) and Sài Gòn Giải Phóng (Liberated Sài Gòn).
Around 10,000 books on various subjects from major publishers and distributors like the Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) Publishing House, Phương Nam Books and the HCM City General Publishing House.
This year there will also be hundreds of audio books.
A kids’ zone will feature new and popular children’s books by famous authors such as Nguyễn Nhật Ánh and paintings featuring frontline COVID medical workers done by children.
There will be discussions between authors and cultural experts and visitors, book introductions and music shows.
The fair is expected to attract around a million visitors. — VNS
