The tide in HCMC will rise to 1.7 – 1.75 meters on October 28 and 29 and flood many areas in the city, the Southern Hydro-meteorological Center has warned.
The tide is likely to peak at 4 -7 a.m. and again at 4-6 p.m., then ebb gradually. Thunderstorms in the afternoon concurrent the high tide will likely flood roads in low-lying areas in Ho Chi Minh City, the center said Sunday.
The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Ho Chi Minh City has sent an urgent warning to Districts 7, 8,12, Thu Duc, Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Binh Tan, Nha Be and Cu Chi, Binh Chanh and Hoc Mon, asking them to be prepared to deal with the high tide impacts.
State departments and agencies have been advised to secure important embankment sections, drainage and sewage systems and prepare mobile water pumps for draining water where needed.
High tides in late September and early October had reached a record 1.77 – 1.8 m on the Saigon and Dong Dien Rivers, heavily flooding many areas in the city, and experts have warned that this could happen again.
The previous high tide peak was 1.72m in 2017.
