Over 42% of the households in HCM City are using water that isn’t safe.
On April 10, HCM City Preventive Health Centre announced the results of the drinking water, living and environmental quality monitoring programme of 2018.
The centre has collected 3,155 samples from all districts and wards to test the water quality. However, while 95.63% met the microbiological standards, only 57.91% of the samples meet the physical-chemistry criteria. Many of the well water samples have chlorine residue, low pH or ammonia levels.
The unprocessed water from Saigon and Dong Nai rivers also didn’t meet the criteria but the filtered water met criteria for drinking water.
The centre advised people who live in areas that haven’t been provided clean water yet to use water purifiers. They also advised against digging and using well water. The centre will continue monitoring the water quality in the city for suitable adjustments.
