Hanoi Department of Transport restored the ban on taxis on 11 streets from September 3 in order to prevent congestion.
Taxi ban resumed on 11 Hanoi streets.
Hanoi Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Department said the taxi ban had been applied on 11 streets for a long time. During the social distancing period, the ban was lifted on 10 streets as a way to help transportation firms when most people, especially students and office workers were at home.
However, as the situation has improved, road traffic has increased. The ban was resumed in September when students returned to school in order to prevent congestion and disorder.
Taxi cabs are now banned both ways on Le Van Luong, Giang Vo and Lang Ha streets from 6 am to 9 am and from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm, except during the weekends. The signs are also found on Hang Bai and Hai Ba Trung streets. Tran Hung Dao streets will not have taxis from 6 am to 7 pm.
The local authorities have started pilot banning app-based taxis that are larger than 16 seats from Chuong Duong Bridge from 6 am to 7 pm. The programme will last for one month.
