Google’s changes will take effect across multiple devices such as TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices.
Recently, Google announced the “phasing out” of the YouTube Kids app on TVs starting from July. Introduced some time ago with the aim of allowing children to access YouTube across various platforms, including Smart TVs, gaming consoles (PS5, Xbox), and streaming devices (Chromecast, Apple TV), the standalone YouTube Kids app will completely disappear from these devices.
However, parents need not worry. Although the YouTube Kids app icon will no longer appear on TVs this summer, children can still access YouTube Kids through the child profile within the main YouTube app. This means the standalone Kids app will be replaced by the YouTube app.
YouTube Kids app on TV
It’s noteworthy that children can watch YouTube Kids even without logging in. Typically, children access YouTube Kids by entering the child profile within the YouTube app. However, children can also watch YouTube Kids using a “Guest Account.”
Once this process is completed, the option for the YouTube Kids profile will appear on the account page or the “Who’s Watching?” screen. Selecting this profile will redirect to YouTube Kids. YouTube Guest accounts can be deleted at any time from the account page.
Although Google has confirmed the discontinuation of the YouTube Kids app on TVs, there has been no official announcement regarding the fate of this app on iOS and Android.
